I’m listening to C-Span right now. They are showing the Senate hearing on Iraq. General Petraeus and Ambassador Crooker are addressing the senate right now and guess what? The surge is working!!! Oh and of course: “al Qaeda, al Qaeda, al Qaeda, al Qaeda.”
Are the American people still buying this crap?
First of all: AL QAEDA IS NOT IN IRAQ!!!! And the only reason that there has been any abatement in violence is because of Al-Sadr’s cease-fire. Oh and the fact that the ethnic cleansing that has taken place over the last four years is almost complete.
So the real facts on the ground are:
- US spending an estimated $3.5 billion a week ... and counting or a total of $4 trillion thus far
- 4,023 US troops have been killed
- 29,628 US troops have been wounded
- Over 1,000,000 Iraqis have been killed
- Over 4,000,000 Iraqis are refugees
WTF? If “this strategy has succeeded,” what does it mean to say that it “will succeed and can succeed”? Either it has succeeded or it hasn’t. And in what way did he fight against it?“We’re paying a huge penalty for four years of a failed strategy that I fought hard against, and I believe this [new] strategy has succeeded and will succeed and can succeed,” McCain said. “But it’s long and hard and tough.”
This man visibly has no idea what he is talking about. He should shut the #%!@ up.
Ok…I need a break from listening to this. I’m getting heart burn.
Update: corrected the number of Iraqis that have been killed and displaced - got a little carried away hitting the zero key. Thanks Jelly!
In 2006, the British had decided to do a body count. At that time they found evidence that since our invasion in March of 2003 that 655,000 Iraq civilians had been killed. That was two years ago. Of course the Bush administration said it was bullshit, but since then other had reviewed the methodology and declared that it was accurate. You can read that reporting here: http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/10/11/iraq.deaths/.
The only other group that I know of that since the beginning of the war has taken a daily count of reported deaths is this group: http://antiwar.com/updates/. As you can see they document every death and they have the number at 1,197,469 as of this morning.
And yes, according to the UN there are 4 million Iraqis that have been displaced by the war: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19055852. 2.2 million have crossed the borders into Syria and Iran and the other nearly 2 million are within the country living nomadically.
The US has only allowed 1,600 refugees to come to America. In fact yesterday Senators Kennedy and Biden released to following report on the refugee situation: http://www.allamericanpatriots.com/48745630_senators-kennedy-biden-release-report-iraqi-refuge.
But thanks for playing along! Just kidding. Thanks for reading and for questioning my logic. I want to always be as accurate as possible when I am throwing out this numbers that I know are so foreign to what we see get reported in our press.
I believe it about the refugees though. I don't think the solution is letting them come to the US though. I definitely think we need to find places for them to go that don't involve tents in the desert but 4 million people suddenly appearing on our doorstep isn't going to help anyone.
